Quincy Woodworkers Guild

Quincy Woodworkers Guild is a group of men and women who share a common interest in woodworking. Member skill levels range from beginners and tinkers to accomplished woodworkers. Some of us are better at making sawdust and kindling than projects, while others can do amazing things. The interests in woodworking range from crafts, carving, cabinet making, scroll sawing, pen and bowl turning, building/restoring furniture, cutting lumber from logs, and just about everything in between. The main focus is learning for all skill levels and the exchange of ideas for projects and how to make them. This exchange of ideas is the real membership value of this group.

This group meets the first Monday of each month (except for holidays, then the second Monday), usually at a member's workshop, but sometimes at sawmills, lumber yards, commercial wood shops or other locations. Frequently members bring finsihed projects for the group to see, and more frequently, members will bring in projects in progress for an exchange of ideas on how to approach and design a project, how to make certain types of cuts in wood, how to sharpen tools, or how to apply a particular type of finish. The club also maintains a library of books, magazines and CDs for members use. Dues are $20.00 per year. Most of the money goes to support local activities (Quincy Fine Arts, Symphony of Trees, Illinois Veterans Home, Quincy Senior Center are examples) that members of our group participate in, and to expand our library.

The group usually meets at the Illinois Veterans Home in September for a pot luck family picnic and in December for dinner and Christmas gift exchange of items made by members or items of interet to members and spouses.

Most members live within 25 miles of Quincy, Illinois, but we also have a few members who travel about 50 miles each way for meetings. Guests and new members are welcome.
