Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County

The Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County, located at 425 S. 12th St., is a private, nonprofit organization that exists to preserve, protect and promote the stories of Quincy and Adams County. Since 1906 the Society’s members and staff have conserved and operated the Governor John Wood Mansion, a 19th Century Greek Revival home selected one of the 150 most architecturally significant structures in Illinois. The Society also operates a History Museum, the Lincoln Gallery, a research library and a gift shop, and recently took on the old public library building to host exhibits.  The Historical Society is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday thru Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
